We returned to Boise from our Iceland trip Saturday, Sunday we celebrated Father's Day with my sisters family in Idaho and then we drove home that late afternoon. Tuesday that week Charles got a text that his mission call came in! He'd submitted his papers two weeks before. He opened it right away and was going to wait to tell us until he opened it for everyone on Wednesday night (Jane and I were working concessions at a Bees game Tuesday night as a cheer fundraiser) but then Tuesday night after Jane and I were home and we were reading/praying together as a family, Scott talked him into telling us. October 31st he'll enter the Ghana MTC and then serve in the Ghana Kumasi mission for the next two years. Just the year before he'd been asking about doing a 2 week humanitarian trip and he was really wanting to go to Africa to do that, but it was so expensive and he was saving for his mission. Well, looks like he'll be doing one after all, but for 2 years.
Nora and Annabelle have been seeling frozen cookie dough as a fundraiser to earn money for their soccer fees. They each made double batches of cookie dough over a couple of days and ended up making $400 together, which paid for both of their uniform fees! It was so nice to just make and sell the cookie dough without having to do all the baking and sitting outside in the hot sun for hours which is what we've done in the past. We took pictures and posted it on our hoa community page and Scott brought a paper with a QR code to our venmo, plus a sampling of cookies on a plate.
I love Clean and Simple Eats products and recipes and my kiddos like some and don't like others. This snack got two thumbs up from Nora. It's a cucumber sandwich with hummus, string cheese and deli turkey in between. We've been eating these regularly for the past month or so.
Nora was invited to an overnighter birthday party at a good friends cabin. I was invited to come along too so I could help with the girls when they did adventurous activites like the ziplining. The cabin was in Mt Pleasant.
On the way in, we stopped at Rodger's Dairy Freeze and got dinner.
Once we got to the cabin, we got the motor bike and the ATV out. The girls all took turns driving after Jackie taught them how to drive safely. Except when she was out driving someone in the ATV one of the girls jumped on the motor bike that hadn't been taught yet and was just standing there talking to Josie and I didnt' think much of it until she hit the gas and I realized she was going to try to ride and she didn't even have a helmet on! I yelled out, 'wait! you need a helmet!' but it was too late. She had no idea what she was doing and instead of hitting the break, she hit the acelerator and started going really fast and she crashed into a tree that was maybe 10 meters away. She flipped over the front and landed in some bushes. Poor thing. Luckily Jackie had required them to be in long pants and long sleeves so the scrapes weren't too bad, but she got some whip lash in her neck which hurt that night. But by the next morning she was feeling much better and we even got her to get back on the bike again and taught her how to use it properly.
The next morning we went to a neighbors cabin down the road who owns a lot of land and who has built a zipline on their property. They've also built award winning treehouses on their property which were amazing! Think, Swiss Family Robinson tree houses.
The ziplines were high and fast! I went on each of the two ziplines once(and hit my butt hard on the ground trying to land one of them) and then decided I'd had enough of that but I was happy to catch the girls as they came gliding in. They had fun doing ziplines for almost an hour until they were tired from all the climbing up to get to the zipline each time. We stopped at Rodgers Freeze again on the way out and got shakes (and I got chicken tenders).
On the way home, I had Jackie drop me off in Orem where Charles and Drew were competing in a pickleball tournament. Scott was down there too, so after their game, I drove home with Scott.
That same weekend, Annabelle went to YW high adventure camp at Zion's National Park. They went rappeling which was a first for her, and I'm a little jealous! I told Scott we'll have to go do that sometime for a date weekend.
