April we have two birthdays in our house: me and nora. Scott and I do quarterly overnighters (and one of those is longer like a long weekend or more), around our birthdays(April and January), our anniversary(July) and one other time, often in the Fall. I had been wanting to do an endowment session at the Manti temple so we decided to do our overnighter out that way. We stayed in ephraim, got dinner, went for a walk (saw the new ephraim temple which is almost done), walked around Snow college and then the next morning we went to Manti temple before heading back home. I love our one-on-one time together.
This guy in the background sitting on the steps was sweet. He remarked that he was happy to see our smiling faces. When someone offered to take our picture for us, he said he could move, to which we insisted he not move an inch. So he smiled for the picture :).
Angelo's been working hard. He has been working at Dutch Bros and a modeling agency and just recently got a job at The Roof restaurant in Salt Lake City. He likes all his jobs. He also just recently was able to purchase car insurance so he's driving again.
I'm still teaching gospel doctrine and loving it. Mostly I love how much I study and search the scriptures. It's been a blessing for sure. I've always loved the scriptures, but the amount of time I spend in them now is helping me to learn and grow even closer to christ as I learn of him.
Scott asked what dessert I'd like for my birthday and I told him there was a cake recipe I'd been wanting to try from Cakesbycourtney. It's a funfetti cake. He asked me to send him the recipe and he made it! A funfetti cake from scratch and it was delicious!!!
Thanks honey! You're the best!
Annabelle brought lunch to me on my birthday (so sweet of her!) and we ate together. Elisa L took me out for a boba smoothie after work at Devil and Angel Dessert, and then Sher took me to lunch one day that week as well. I felt very loved.
On another note, Annabelle and Jane got asked to prom, and they both responded the same way, which was by borrowing a friends baby goat!
Jane finally went to a dance with Jacob. He was one of the friends we took hiking to Lake Blanche last summer and him and Jane have fun together. They sang through the majority of the hike.
Because of Annabelle's work, she can only make it to about half of her games, but she's having fun and getting some time outdoors so it's worth it.
We finished the paperwork for Annabelle's Ghana visa since she's doing HXP out there in June, and got it all sent off to the embassy in WA DC. It was quite the ordeal with hiccups along the way (documents not uploading, then not saving, trying to figure out how to send them a return label when online it said it was only good for 2 days, then payments saying they went through but then saying it didn't go through and we needed to start the process again, as well as having issues logging into the site). We had several sleepless nights, hours of watiting on hold, and a couple of trips to UPS/Fed EX before finally getting it all figured out and the package was on it's way. When we received her Visa in the mail a couple of weeks later, I let out a sigh of relief.
Scott got a couple of free tickets to an RSL game(from someone else on the board of Copper Mountain soccer), and I was planning to go with him but when Nora found out that Messi was coming to play from Florida, she begged to go. So I let her take my place :). There was an 'other side academy' donut truck there so they had to stop by and get a donut since our niece Leia is at that academy and they're doing such an amazing work there.
Here's a pic Nora got with Messi...he's the closest one in pink.
Penny loves to lay by the doors...back door, garage door, front door. Although this is the one she'll go to most often if she's off her leash.
The end of April we had another birthday. Nora turned 14! Nora had a birthday party with a bunch of her friends at our house the weekend before. They played kahoots, ate food, played some games outside and made smores, and then hung out in the basement.
A package arrived for her the day before her birthday, a big package, and a heavy one, and I didn't know where to put it, so we just slid it over near the couch in the front room and covered it with a blanket to help it look less conspicuous. Under that blanket is a vanity she's been asking for.
She chose beignets with nutella for her birthday treat, and for dinner we had mexican food.
We've had some recent challenges with some of our extended family relations and I was feeling sad and concerned and not sure how to respond. I wished I had my mom to visit with. As I was feeling this way, and on a day when some negative feelings of sadness, disappointment and turmoil were very close to the surface, I pulled out a canvas and some paints we had on hand and was drawn to write this beloved scripture and place it where I could see it often and be reminded of who I want to be and the feelings that are always available to us. I was also reminded of a talk our previous Prophet President Nelson gave not too long ago, as well as our newest prophet President Oaks who also talked on the same thing, about being a peacemaker. As I read President Nelson's talk, I felt like he was my grandfather, sharing inspired wisdom, love and counsel. I loved how he began with an experience he had in an operating room when the surgeon got angry and threw a scalpel, which landed IN President Nelson's forearm. He said, 'thankfully I didn't become infected." For me, that was lesson number one. Do not let the criticism and negative feelings of others infect me and spread througout not only myself but especially the ones around me becoming a contagion. Don't share it with other siblings and family members; only with those who it pertains to. But instead, work through it and be who I want to be(always striving to be christ-like), no matter what is being 'thrown' my way. We're still working through some things, but I'm hopeful. I love my family and I always want our relationships to reflect that love, and joy and peace that I know is available to each of us. I am so grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life; it not only brings me peace and strength during times of difficulty and turmoil, but it also continually refines me in ways that I wouldn't otherwise, and helps me to be a little kinder, a little more loving and patient and I'm grateful for that. I've still got a long ways to go. Line upon line, precept upon precept. Onward and upward.
