Friday was the 4th of July. Our family, Fred's family and Luis and Denali went down to Riverton City Park where we did a 5k. Reese finished 2nd overall for women! I finished in 26 minutes and 6 seconds which is a 8:24 min/mile which was good for me considering I haven't been working on speed. And this Riverton race is not easy; there were a couple of good hills and not much down. This was Luis' first real run since his hip surgery back in December (and his first hike) and he said he felt good!
After our race we went swimming again and then hung out at home, played games, made food (I had sent out a google sheet for people to sign up to make/bring different foods for dinner each day and then they were all in charge of their own breakfasts and lunches...Luis doesn't like to shop or do food prep so he just gave us extra cash to cover costs which was good of him).
Friday night some people went to Riverton City Park to watch fireworks and some of us stayed home and did fireworks in the front yard.
Saturday morning was another hike. This one was to Lower Falls via Bells Canyon. This one is about 4.5 miles round trip. I love that hiking allows you the opportunity to be outdoors, among God's beautiful creations, getting fresh air, away from the noise of the city, and when you go with friends and family, it also allows time for connection.
Most evenings were pretty open and unscheduled, so we had time to visit and play games which I loved.
This is what the front door looked like during our reunion. I didn't mind. To me it is the evidence that I've got a home full of loved ones and I love that.
Some of us went and got Acai bowls one day. I was trying so hard to get baby Emma to love me and trust me, but alas she did not. Maybe next time. Here I was trying to feed her some Acai bowl, since she obviously liked it, but when she saw I was the one with the spoon in my hand, she stopped eating.
I pulled out my family pictures from growing up and mom's journals, and Becca brought hers too, so that when we had down time, we could look through them and reminisce.
Saturday night I made cinnamon rolls and I found out that Ava loves to help in the kitchen. She was a good helper and wanted to be a part of every step.
Sunday Fred's family, Becca's family and Pepa came to church with us, and after we got back we had brunch and then Luis and Pepa both asked for priesthood blessings. It was sweet to listen in on and feel the love of our Heavenly Father for them. Luis and Denali and Becca's family had to take off shortly after. We had time to play a few rounds of Code Names with Andre and Sydney before they took off to the airport. Fred's family was able to stay one more night and then Monday morning they took off for Bear Lake where their next family reunion was beginning. We loved having everyone here and I hope we continue to do these forever.
