Toffee chocolate bars
We tried making those chocolate covered brownie bars again last week, but this time using all the butter it called for, instead of half. If you don't remember what I'm talking about you can click here to read up on it. They were moist this time, and didn't ever turn really hard like last time, even after a couple of days. All in all, very good. I'll be writing down this recipe and putting it in the, 'My Favorite Recipes' binder that I have. Here's the recipe:
2 c light brown sugar, firmly packed
2 c butter at room temperature
2 egg yolks
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
4 c all purpose or whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 4-oz bars of milk chocolate broken in pieces
1 c chopped walnuts or pecans
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg yolks and vanilla. Stir in the flour and salt. Spread the dough in a greased 9 x 13 baking pan. Bake until lightly browned 25-30 minutes. The texture will be soft. Remove from the oven and immediately place the chocolate pieces on hot cookie base. Let stand until the chocolate softens then spread it evenly with a spatula. Sprinkle with nuts. While still warm cut into bars about 2 x 1 1/2 inches.
